Is girth too narrow? Can it be altered? I have an Aussie saddle (love it) My teacher isn't familiar with them or with English saddles, so we need help figuring this out. The girth is naturally narrower than a Western girth, and he's concerned that it may be uncomfortable for the horse. Would a girth cover help make it more comfortable? Sweat etc. isn't the problem, so I don't need it for that. Do I need to replace the girth instead? That doesn't look easy or cheap, since it would appear it would have to be stitched on. A Western girth wouldn't work, I don't think, because an Aussie girth isn't held on with a D-ring but with straps with buckles. Anyone have any advice? Melissa

You can buy converters, here's one link. Just google western to english girth converter, they come in both 2 and 3 billet styles: https://www.chicksaddlery.com/page/CDS/PROD/1050/GC6120?utm_source=nextag&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=nextag%2Bdata%2Bfeed Here's a really comfortable western style cinch if you're looking to go that route as well. It says they have an English one available but I didn't see a pic, must be a new development. The buckle rotates for comfort. You can e-mail the creator from the site, he's real friendly and knowledgeable. Check out the near tight cinch by Len Brown.

You can also get some very nice neoprene dressage type girths that are wider and more comfortable in my opinion. The horses seem to do well with the neoprene and it's easy to keep clean. Look in some of the catalogs or google on line. SStack.com, stateline tack, Dover are good places to try on line.
