Posted on Friday, Aug 19, 2005 - 5:18 am: Hi all, I have a traditional leather saddle. I need new strirrup leathers and have been shopping around. I really like the style and the *price* of the Wintec "leathers" compared to other no-stretch leathers I am seeing (I really want no-stretch ones). I have a few questions though:1) will the synthetic material harm my traditional leather saddle? I need them in black, which appears to be pseudo-suede or something like that. 2) are they really "non-stretch" after regular use? 3) has anyone used Wintec's T-bar system that replaces buckles? My gut reaction is a safety concern; it seems nowhere near as secure as a buckle. But I've never seen them in action, so I can't judge. Thank you! Lisa |

We have one set that must be 15 years old and still in usable condition. We have not had any problems you express above nor any other problems but have not used them on our leather saddles. I am a big guy and I use the same set in the same hole year after year after year.DrO |

We tried the Wintec webbers and she was happy, no marking, and no buckle in the way. We didn't use this combo much though,(she had outgrown the saddle) so I don't know about long term if it marks the leather. I figured the marks from from the synthetic leather, if there were going to be any, couldn't be as nasty as what I was getting from the buckles!I feel the t bar system is very safe, I like how small and easy it is to use. I use the Wintec webbers on a Wintec styled Aussie saddle. |

It shows no wear from the webbers.I am always careful to pull the small sleeve down over the buckle. I've noticed the newer model doesn't have the sleeve, but has a covering over the entire length of the webber. I don't know if that will cause a problem or not. They may have stretched one hole in five years. It's always a good idea to change sides regularly. Wiley |

I have had them since 1990 and love the ability to quick and easy to change from the saddle or ground, and I love not having a buckle under my thigh when riding. I have two older style Wintec saddles that don't have a jockey . . . just a tiny flap over the stirrup bar . . . they are my most comfortable saddles . . . and I credit the webbers with part of that comfort. |

I will certainly be staying with the Wintec system, and I put in a vote for the adjustable gullet on my dressage saddle as well. |
