My foal/yearling is still trying to launch himself over the stable door when alone. I feed him there to try to make it a nice place to be and he's fine if I put a horse next door or tied up in sight but panics if alone but I can't see how to move him on to being settled alone. He was weaned 3 months ago. Thanks for any tips.

Jo...have you read the recent posts on Stall Mirrors? You can do a quick search. Good Luck with your boy!

Be sure the stable is secure and safe (close any hole big enough to get a head through) then ignore the behavior completely. The behavior will extinguish rapidly if completely ignored. The more inconsistent you have been about ignoring this in the past or worse if you have tried to quite him down with food or companionship or if he has broken out of the stall the longer it will not take. For those who have not received mixed messages in the past I never seen one go more than 3 days, most much less. Once he settles down and is quite you can reward him. DrO
