Posted on Thursday, Jul 6, 2000 - 3:42 pm: I am riding a green 3-year old QH gelding. My interest is reining.Currently I am riding aimlessly in an arena with out much discipline or direction of what to teach me or my horse. It occured to me that the foundation that I am looking for might be better realized in dressage for the preparation of learning reining. Or, should I go straight into training in reining? Thanks for any advise you have. |

We just got an excellent reining video and really having fun trying things out - We have absolutely no plans to ever compete or become super reiners or cutters, but the techniques help your basic horsemanship and our horses really respond. The video (Teaching your horse to spin & rollback) is easy to understand, goes step by step with green horses. I highly recommend this video. It's by Larry Trocha - he has an ad in Western Horseman Magazine, also a website horsetrainingvideos.com. |

It is https://www.prairienet.org/jjahiel and she has an excellent type of newsletter at https://www.prairienet.org/horse-sense Hope you might find some interesting information there. |

The training makes it easier for the horse to carry weight, and I think it makes the horse a delight to ride. One forms a real partnership with his/her horse through dressage training, because it's goal is to create greater and greater degrees of suppleness and harmony between horse and rider. Try it, I know some cowboys that have tried it and liked it and the benefits afforded their horses. Have fun & regards, Salome' |
