Hi All, I have a yearling TWH. Starr is very sweet (& very intelligent!). One day while leading her she spooked and literally jumped on me! Since then, I've noticed her leading skills really aren't as good as I would like. Mainly she walks behind me when I lead her (she wasn't that day though) and doesn't seem to know to walk alongside me. I am still hoping to get together with a trainer sometime this fall but since I don't have my own trailer that has been a problem of late. So, does anyone have any suggestions on how to teach her to lead & to tie? I was thinking of digging out my John Lyons' books & flipping through them but also thought I'd get suggestions here. Also, does this occur very often or if a foal is trained from when it is just a baby - under a week - does it just naturally learn to respect your space? How do you teach this? I am also stressing about this because we recently purchased 2 draft mares who are due to foal this spring. I am learning all I can before they foal because I want to train them myself. Anyway, would love to hear any suggestions! Laura B.

I believe the TTEAM folks have a nice video on working with young horses. This may give you some structure and method to your cues, handling, progressive building blocks. The little guys do have a very short attention span, so work sessions need to be short. TTEAM's web site is https://horsenet.com/tteam-ttouch/
