Can't tell if he stands wide in the front, whether or not he toes in or out, whether he is narrow or wide chested, or if he may be cow-hocked without seeing him from the front and back. Are you thinking of getting a QH? |

If you are planning lots of trail riding in tough country I would be a bit concerned with the size of this guys feet and finer legs. He is a 2yr old so the downhill look is typical, he will likely even out by three. However, some maintain a bit lower front end profile which makes it more difficult for them to do more than very low jumps. He looks like he could be somewhat cowhocked, which is not a terrible fault, it looks like his off front may toe out some, but that could just be the picture and the way he is standing. Again, with his leg back the picture might not be true, it looks like his loin is not as flat and wide as it could be. HIs shoulder is out of proportion with his rump but that will change as he gets older. His neck comes out of his shoulder at a nice angle. HIs wither will develop more as he gets older and also from riding so he should hold a saddle nicely. His shoulder/elbow angle is good, he should be able to reach forward and give you nice gaits. He does have a powerful looking bum, with the muscle extending low on his back leg. Have you spent much time with him? Does he seem to have a good attitude? I want attitude as much as good conformation. Overall, he looks athletic enough to do anything you would ask him to do. |

Posted on Wednesday, Dec 6, 2006 - 2:19 pm: Congrats Gwen, I know from our previous discussions, you love the QH and were not thinking of getting another one so soon, but way to go girl!Is there any way you can get better pics of him standing straight and from the front and rear? He looks like a good prospect Gwen. What is his breeding? How come you cut off his head? I'd love to see that kind eye and pretty head?? I would say his neck ties in a bit low. He is a little butt high, but not to an extreme and with him only being 2, I am sure he will even out over the next year. My guy was very butt high (> 3") until he was 3 and then evened out. His hip ties in nice and low, so he should be able to really get under himself. Nice slope to his croup. Have you seen him move? What are your future expectations for him? Overall, I would say he is a well balanced individual with good confirmation although additional pics would be helpful. Best of luck and please let us know if he has found a new home with you. I would love to see the rest of him! :0) Also, I just had to include a picture of my mare, because my mare and you're potential guy have pretty much the same markings on their legs, and are the same color! I took one look at the picture, and my jaw just DrOpped. I don't have a picture of her standing still on this computer, so sorry that the legs are kinda blurry, but I think you can still see what I mean. Anyway, congrats on your new addition, if you decide to get him. Nicole |

I had forgotten about this post though, and the horse sold. He went so fast, I never even had an opportunity for a counter offer! He is a qh and the picture was sent to me like that. I had others with his head and he was very cute and sweet looking. I have yet to find anything that makes me want to put my big guy out to pasture, but I am sure if I find something, the pictures will be up here as soon as possible!!!!Nicole, your mare is a cutie and does look just like the little guy I was looking at! |
