WE live in western New York and my wife owns 2 quarter horses which we keep on our agricultural land. Recently our local Village government passed a zoning law that will make us move our fences in 100 feet from our property line. This new law will make 30 to 35% of our ag property unsable.Has anyone heard of this kind of situation before or does anyone know how to combat this problem. We have already hired a lawyer but would like additional info. Thank You weber98@webtv.net

I live in Tenn. and if they widen the road they will take the land they need. I'm not sure how much they are allowed but they did one here last year & it looked like quite a bit to me. Maybe 10 to 15 feet on each side. When you have quite a bit of road frontage it can add up. Another thing I don't care for is that the fence will be gone and they don't give any compensation and THAT could really add up. Not to mention what do you do with your animals if you don't have another pasture and even if you do you are losing the use of it for quite a while. People here don't seem to mind because the roads are improved and they like the progress. We moved here from Boston and prefer to leave the "progress" behind! Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.
