Sand accumulation in the bowel of horses on sandy soils is common and labelled sand enteropathy. Over time the sand can build up leading to diarrhea, colic, and when severe, death. Management factors greatly affect the rate of sand accumulation. This article contains information on the clinical signs, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of sand colic.
