A zoonosis (zo-o-nosis) is an infection or infestation shared in nature by humans and other animals. Most often it is used to describe diseases that humans contract from animals. Recently in the western US, pleasure horses have been blamed for shedding Cryptosporidium and other organisms into the water systems and posing a threat to humans and animals who drink the water. This has led to action against the horse industry. This article addresses this and other zoonotic concerns about horse feces.
