Founder & Laminitis
There are two terms used for one of the oldest diseases described in horses: founder and laminitis. Though the scientific folk use the term "laminitis", everyone is pretty sure the initial event, the cause of the disease, is not inflammation of the laminae though inflammation rapidly ensues. For this reason we prefer the older term, founder however we will use the terms interchangeably in these articles and they both mean the same thing here.
