Normal Sole Anatomy and Contracted Heels of the foot of Horses

This article contains labelled images of the solar surface of the front foot, hind foot, and a foot with contracted heels. There is a description of the contracted heels condition.

Fore Foot

Starting at the outside of the foot:
  • Wall.........yellow
  • White line...thin line just to the inside of the wall that goes all the way from one heel to the other
  • Bars.........blue
  • Frog.........the large triangular structure between the bars
  • Sulcus of the Frog....red
  • Bulb of the Heels....The 2 protrusions at the top of the frog (back of the foot)
